| The theme for SAF06 is Software + Services. |
| Services are everywhere. Global business collaboration is driving organizations of all sorts — from manufacturers to logistics providers to telecoms to governments — to become business service providers. Business applications — the software that integrates these services into manageable processes — are sourcing business services from an increasingly heterogeneous network of providers. To embrace the Software + Services model, we must understand how to both provide and consume business services. What do business applications that consume external services look like, and what do they need from their service providers? How can an organization become a trustworthy business service provider? How do we manage and govern a service portfolio that extends beyond the boundaries of the organization? How will S+S foster people-driven productivity, and what new metaphors are emerging to make the power of S+S available to everyone? Join us at SAF06 to explore this new direction both for technology architecture, and for the collaboration between organizations around the globe. |

| The tracks for SAF are: |
| Track 1: Experience |
| For the past few years the focus of Architecture in the IT industry has been largely around data centers, back end systems and services. Now that these foundational aspects of IT architecture have matured, it's time to return the focus of architecture to where it can have the biggest impact and greatest value for the business: the user. The user, whether it be the CEO, middle manager or shop floor worker, has the ability to impact business in both positive and negative ways every day with every decision. Sessions in this track will present a variety of new ways of thinking about User Experience as it relates to Architecture. |
| Track 2: Services |
| Service Oriented Architecture, Enterprise Service Bus, Software as a Service… it is hard these days to find an Architecture concept that is not about services. Whether you are interested in decomposing your business in services, gaining agility via services or reaching new opportunities by aggregating services, this track will explore Services from many angles through many lenses, all accruing to this year’s theme of Software + Services. |
| Track 3: Business |
| Today, new social movements, advances in technology, and forces within business are colliding to create a landscape overflowing with technical and business challenges and opportunities. Organizations are looking at the new business, marketplace and revenue opportunities that Web 2.0, SaaS, Software + Services, mobile computing, Blogs, Wikis, social networks, advertising and the “long tail” are offering to the Enterprise and looking to Architects for guidance on how to build new and innovative businesses and business models using these technologies. This track will examine the business, marketplace and revenue innovations and opportunities that are emerging, and how those can be implemented with technology. |
| Track 4: Applications |
| Globalization, specialization and new technologies are shifting the way we work from transactional interactions to active collaboration. Information workers use powerful tools to gather insight and collaborate, but these tools’ effectiveness is limited to personal productivity. In order to remain competitive in this new world, companies need to rethink their application strategies, understand the new work environment and invest in systems that enable people to people collaboration. Companies need to inculcate a culture of analysis and informed decision making and integrate the business application with personal productivity tools. This track examines the shift in the application landscape and the technology capabilities needed to design and develop this new breed of business applications. |
